Variations of green - Wikipedia, the free... →
This is the green we might use if we go for a wireframe graphic look to the space sequences in our Black Hole animation. Genuine old skool 80s style.

What is a mood board?
According to Wikipedia it is a poster of found images, text, colour and textures to express the visual direction of a design project. It can be used to indicate an overall look for example or to give some idea of the flow of a story. It can be digital or physical although the article notes that physical objects tend to have a greater impact on the viewer.

Universe Awareness for Young Children - Model of a... →
This isn’t quite as bad. I like the idea of creating an experiment to illustrate the scientific principle. This allows the kids to get hands on. It seems to lack the fun element kids like. I would prefer to see something a bit messier or spectacular…

In spring 2009, the start button for the biggest scientific experiment in the history of mankind will be pressed. Using the energy required to power Geneva, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will investigate many of the mysteries surrounding the smallest things in nature...

Slumdog Millionaire (review)
Danny Boyle’s latest offering will doubtless scoop countless awards. A heart warming story and a happy ending set this apart from the usual fare we expect from the British film industry. Very enjoyable, almost epic, with great performances from a group of unknowns (in India too apparently).
Most memorable scene has to be the young protagonist diving into a pit of human excrement in order to...

The Wrestler (review)
A Golden Globe for the lead, Mickey Rourke, turned my attention to this offering. The tale of a broken down pro wrestler with an illustrious past has echoes of Rourke’s own turbulent career and allows him to draw on his own experience in the ring and Hollywood to produce this exciting performance. A great script, believable characters and compelling story combine to make this a very...

Fascinating analysis of consumer economics. I wonder what comes after authenticity is repackaged and commoditised?
TED Blog: Understanding comics: Scott McCloud on... →
I read McCloud’s Understanding Comics a while ago so I was pleased to see he’d given a talk at TED. In comic form he presents his view on art and the medium of comics in a very digestible way without being either patronising or obscure. I learned more about the world of visual communication from this comic book than from any of the stuffy academic texts recommended in this field. As he...
Helvetica Film →
I’m interested in watching this movie because I like type and graphic design issues and I think it will give a good overview of the industry and some of the main movers within it. Hustwit says he has applied the record label model to his production company and that could be useful to know more about too.
Volver (review)
I watched Volver, a film by Pedro Almodovar last night. Really good storyline delivered in Spanish with a key performance by Almodovar’s muse, Penelope Cruz. Dark secrets and lies are revealed in an affectionately told story about a group of women in Madrid and the Spanish countryside.
I enjoyed Almodovar’s storytelling technique a great deal. Having never watched any of his movies...
